It goes without saying that this extension should now be considered spyware in light of Avast’s history of capitalizing on user data.

Recommended replacement is Consent-O-Matic.

Consent-O-Matic is a great replacement as it actually changes the options for you to reject the tracking cookies, instead of just hiding the banner.

Thank you. I immediately uninstalled it and didn’t have time to search for a replacement yet.

It also goes without saying Firefox should block these warnings by default. Or at least have the option go.

I don’t think that’s a job for Firefox, if it was, then they could also make their own ad block, dark reader for websites… etc…

Firefox should focus on the browser and showing the websites properly as their debugging tools (which is fantastic). And stop with cryptoshit, VPN and stupid things no one asked.

Honestly, I would love if they did adblock by default.

They already do a bit of tracking protection, but I guess Mozilla relies on ads too much to anger the big advertising giants like Google.

From the announcement:

After exactly 10 years of maintaining this project and dealing with cookie/GDPR pop-ups on my own, I am proud and happy to say that Avast - a famous and trustworthy IT company known for the wide range of products that help secure our digital experience, has recognized its value!

I don’t know much about Avast so I checked its wikipedia article:

*In January 2020, a joint investigation by Motherboard and PCMag found that the Avast Antivirus and AVG AntiVirus Free version were collecting user data, which was being resold to personalize advertising through a subsidiary, Jumpshot. The leaked documents showed that Jumpshot offered to provide its customers with “Every search. Every click. On every site.” from more than 100 million compromised devices.

A dog whistle by the creator to say ‘hey guys, I sold my soul for money, go get another addon’

Thankfully the original code was GPL so its already been forked. Definitely one of my favorite extensions since the cookie privacy warnings started driving me bananas.

However this is just the first one I found searching for a fork so I have no idea if this maintainer will be reliable.

At least the developer was kind enough to give us a warning about that so we can uninstall. Hats off, I would have done the same if someone bought my extension.
