The games suck now. I stopped going because it shifted from arena shooters that could actually be played on LAN to “modern military shooters” played by gamers more interested in their army dude RP then game mechanics. These people do not have interesting enough personalities to hang out with otherwise.
I did hear that MAG Fest has a whole room dedicated to Quake3, so I might be making trip next year.
I can’t get that crew to play any of the older games. It was a 90 minute drive both ways to my monthly LAN party, I may get 30 minutes of arena shooters. The bigger, yearly LANs stopped doing tournaments for arena shooters or even advertising any scheduled play, so I stopped going. If I spend more time traveling then I do gaming, I’m not too happy.
When I say the company isn’t very good, I mean
Hearing the same few crude jokes repeatedly
Hearing “ew girls” jokes whenever a woman did show up(they would never show up a second time)
Hearing “ew Mac” jokes, even though I kicked their asses in UT2k4
When I said they wanted to just RP, one of them actually wanted to install a whole windows machine in their car just to have a BF2 sound board while they drive. Lots and lots of gunfire sfx. Yes, he was very very white.
I bailed before “GamerGate” was a thing, so at least I didn’t have to hear those shit takes.
Lan parties still happen.

You have a choice between all the modern games including the indie stuff that is made for LANs, plus all the old games since they still just work.
