Today I was, finally, allowed into the closed beta of Kagi.

Here is a screenshot of the email that I received from the developer this morning:

Here’s a screenshot of the search results for ‘lemmy fediverse’:

As far as I can tell, there are no ads nor tracking. There is a lot that I do not know since I just started using it a little bit today.

    Doesn’t/Won’t Kagi require a subscription?

That information is in the screenshot of the email:

Kagi will come as a free version with limited use; and an unlimited use, paid option at $10 a month, both versions having great search results with less spam and completely ad-free, tracking free, and with none of your search data being retained.

My bad, I missed it on accident by skimming through the Email. But I wonder what “limited use” means. Will certain functions (e.g. instant answers similar to DDG) be restricted? Or will themes be locked behind the paywall?

This really interests me since I’m always on the lookout for a good search engine to become my new daily driver. Though I doubt that Kagi will be FOSS which turns me a bit off tbh.

this sounds interesting… but any idea how this compares to whoogle?

        Might be worth a try.

Kagi is tolerable so far. I’m currently trying metager.org out.

Metager limits you, so perhaps I’ll alternate between Kagi, Metager, and Whoogle?
